About Chad Poteat
Chad Poteat began practicing law in 1993 law with Brown and Woods, later known as Brown and Brehmer. He became a partner in 2000. His practice was focused on cases involving construction defect, product liability, catastrophic personal injury, premise liability, automobile liability and general negligence cases. In 2013, Chad transitioned his practice to general practice, where he focused upon personal injury claims, including catastrophic, for plaintiffs and defendants, workers compensation claims, construction defect claims, business litigation and domestic and general litigation.
Chad has been as a member of the South Carolina Bar and the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina since 1993. He is also a Certified Mediator in the state of South Carolina.
Chad graduated from the Honors College at the University of South Carolina in 1989 with a degree in Accounting. He graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1993. Some of his awards and accolades while in school include receiving the USC Steven N. Swanger Award, 1989 Recipient (*University’s 2nd highest individual award); Omicron Delta Kappa’s Leader of the Year Award, 1989 Recipient; USC Outstanding Senior Award; Omicron Delta Kappa Society; and Phi Beta Kappa. He was a member of the Student Editorial Board for the ABA Real Property, Probate and Trust Journal.
Chad is married to Shannon Poteat, another member of the bar in South Carolina, and together have three daughters. In addition to the never-ending job or raising children, Chad enjoys all things sports, as well as multiple outdoor pursuits.
